Class 5, Assignment 1

In order to convey the necessry information from the iED K12 Summit page, I opted to go for a more simple, but layered approach.  There was far too much information if I was to simply use graphics and text.  Instead I made it more like a virtual flyer, highlighting important sections and providing hyperlinks to the main site.  I think this is a more simple and effective attention grabber, rather than forcing tons of textual information down the audience's throat.   This approach forced me to publish the Piktochart in html and embed the code here in blogger, rather than simply uploading a jpeg.

Midterm #10

Above is the house I made using vector graphics in Microsoft Word.  I was able to incorporate a variety of shapes, lines, fills, and textures to construct the house and the sun.  I used various line tools to add a little more context to the environment:  Straight Line Tool for the horizon line, Curves Tool for the walkway, Scribble Tool for the birds, and the Free Form Tool with a shadow for the smoke coming out of the chimney.

It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

Midterm #9

Above is a screenshot of an exercise in creating vector graphics using Microsoft Word.  I experimented with various shapes, colors, transparencies, and shading.

Roll Call: Class 5

Class 5, Assignment 5: TEXTURE MAPPING

** _____ Flat Shaded Objects _____ **

The back of this sign appears to be a flat shaded, tan object.  No details are apparent beyond color.

The orange jars are flat shaded and have no texture.

Steve's hard hat is a flat shaded, yellow.

** _____ Texture Mapping _____ **

These hay bales are an excellent example of texture mapping.  By "wrapping" the 3D object in a bitmap image we are easily able to tell that these rectangles are meant to be bales of hay rather than say... bars of soap.

The image wrapped around this 3D cylinder helps us identify the object as as wooden post.

This tree is wrapped in a wooden texture map.  Notice that this wooden texture is different than the post in the image above.  This helps add even more detail to the environment.

** _____ Class Arriving _____ **

Class 5, Assignment 4

The example above denotes the same 3D object, only #1 is flat shaded, and #2 was texture mapped by "wrapping" the object in a bitmap image.  #2 become much more defined and realistic, with 3D aspects clearly visible.  The flat shading done to #1 makes it much more difficult to identify the individual parts of the tank.

Class 4, Assignment 4

Above is my Piktochart.  I chose to highlight things that interest me as well as places that I have traveled.  I'm not super comfortable putting information about myself freely on the web, so I opted to do it via images.  All of the pictures are my own, from experiences that I have had.  I created the map graphic using a free tool located here.  I then took a screen shot and imported it into Piktochart's editor.  I struggled for a few minutes putting this together in Internet Explorer.  Once I changed to Chrome it all worked fine.  I shoudl've known that from the start.  ;)
