Midterm 3

            JPEG                                     PNG                                          GIF

Above, are three versions of the same image. I uploaded ball.tif from our tutorial, into GIMP. I added my name using the text tool and then proceeded to export the image into the appropriate formats. The PNG came out the largest at 149kb, the JPEG at 115kb and the GIF at a mere 52kb. The size differences are cause by the innate compression of each individual image format. Typically the JPEG carries the most information within the image, resulting in larger file sizes and better quality.

This is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc
