At first glance it may appear that there is no difference between the above images. Using GIMP, all three images were exported in different image formats, resulting in some minor differences. The most obvious difference is in file size between the three formats. The PNG came out the largest at 311kb, the JPEG at 160kband the GIF at a 110kb. The size differences are cause by the innate compression of each individual image format. JPEGs and PNGs carry more information within the image resulting in larger file sizes and better quality.
There was not really much of a difference in quality between the JPEG and the PNG. The JPEG appears to be slightly more clear and sharp. The real difference is with the GIF. The compression undergone by the GIF image is apparent in the blotchy colors and segmented shading. The image also appears more blurry than the JPEG or PNG formats.
